Easy
Hegra is Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest preserved Nabataean settlement south of Petra, with more than a hundred monumental tombs carved into golden sandstone cliffs.
The ride out to Hegra from AlUla town is an easy, mostly straight paved road, so the thrill here is not aggressive cornering but the feeling of leaving the oasis and rolling into a wide desert plateau with cliffs on the horizon.
Easy
Elephant Rock is AlUla’s most famous geological landmark, a 52‑metre sandstone formation naturally sculpted by wind and rain into the shape of a giant elephant standing in the desert.
Easy paved approach from AlUla, but the final entrance section is unpaved and can feel a bit loose under the tires. At night there’s very little lighting once you leave the main entrance, and the internal loop is mostly one‑way, so in peak season expect slow traffic and tight passing with cars and buses.
Easy
AlUla Old Town is a historic mudbrick settlement in the heart of AlUla Governorate, with around 900 traditional houses, a citadel, and narrow lanes that were inhabited up to the late 20th century.
Town access is paved, but the last section and parking around Old Town are mostly unpaved and can get dusty and rutted. At night there’s very limited lighting once you leave the main street, and in busy seasons the area fills with visitors, golf carts, and tour vehicles, so expect crowding and slow maneuvering when you arrive or leave after dark.
Easy
Dadan is one of AlUla’s most important archaeological sites and was the capital of the ancient kingdoms of Dadan and Lihyan. It is especially known for its rock-cut tombs, red sandstone cliffs, and its role in revealing the deep history of northwest Arabia.
The ride out is simple and paved, so this is more of a culture stop than a technical riding stop. It’s best combined with Jabal Ikmah or the oasis side of AlUla on the same day, with an early or late visit for better light and a calmer atmosphere around the site.
Challenging
A breathtaking cliffside overlook on a high volcanic plateau offering iconic, sweeping 360-degree views of the entire AlUla oasis, ancient Dadan, and the historic Old Town down below. Relax by open fire pits as the majestic golden hour sets. It is the absolute ultimate spot to watch Alula.
This route features a steep, winding mountain pass carved directly into the black volcanic basalt rock. The asphalt is completely flawless and highly grippy, offering spectacular lean angles on the ascent. Watch out for sudden strong gusts of wind and a rapid temperature drop at the summit.
Easy
The world's largest mirrored building, reflecting the mesmerizing golden beauty of the surrounding Ashar Valley desert canyons. A stunning architectural mirage blending nature and design into one seamless canvas. It is the absolute ultimate spot to watch the desert transform.
The ride leads you deep into the secure Ashar Valley along perfectly paved, clean desert roads. Watch for light, blowing sand across sections of the highway. Ensure you have your booking reference ready before arriving at the main valley security gate.
Moderate
A remote landscape featuring dramatic, towering dark stone pillars rising sharply out of the desert floor. Sculpted by centuries of erosion, this hidden geological treasure offers one of the absolute best dark-sky stargazing and milky way experiences in the entire world.
The initial route from north AlUla follows smooth tarmac, but the final approach requires navigating unpaved desert tracks. Loose sand and gravel patches mean you need a steady throttle, correct tires, and solid off-road confidence. It is best to ride in a group and arrive before the night darkness drops.
Moderate
A vast protected sanctuary covering fifteen hundred square kilometers of spectacular red rock canyons, sweeping valleys, and desert plateaus. This preserved habitat rejuvenates the region's rich biodiversity and offers a glimpse into Arabia's authentic, untouched wilderness.
The ride northeast features straight, well-maintained highways before transitioning to controlled gravel access tracks near the reserve boundary lines. Strong crosswinds are common across the open plateau spaces, requiring rider focus. Always check fuel levels before heading out since facilities are limited.
